Reconstruction
For my "final piece", I wanted to create something more in depth. It captures creation, destruction, and reconstruction, taking some inspiration from past work and some of the artists I didn't quite get round to exploring. Reconstruction is the final part of this piece.
Having just torn dad's mask apart, I did feel guilty since we'd just put so much time into making it. So, I revisited my original idea for the final piece, and stitched it all back together into a slightly Frankenstein-esque head. I think the result looks pretty cool, especially if you consider how it'd been ripped to bits. I much prefer this to that original idea as there's more of a story behind it rather than it just being a random loaf of bread.
Previously, I said I wanted this displayed with mine and Luke's bread heads, alongside the video of dad's Bread Man being torn apart. Additionally, in the last post I said that, to me, it's a representation that our parents have always been there for us, even in rough spots. The significance of Dad's head being put back together is exactly what you'd think - they don't have to suffer alone through those tough spots. As a family, we're there for one another, and sometimes that means helping each other pull themselves together. I’d leave the heads there for the exhibition, letting them mould and deterioirate together as the time passes.
