Video Notes

Our teachers had provided us some links to videos that were relevant to the Object Sustained project. These videos were meant to help "explain" the project, and show how other artists incorporate normal objects into their work. The videos are linked below, and I've written a short description for each of them.
- Sarah Sze Interview: The Meaning Between Things
This video is, as the title suggests, an interview with the artist Sarah Sze. She explains how she creates multiple sculptures bit by bit, changing things until she feels happy with it. Sze talks about what she tries to achieve in making her sculptures - how she wants things to link, how she wants people to feel, how she gives things meaning. - How artists transform everyday objects | Modern Art & Ideas
This video presents three different artists and their artwork. Each piece started off as a normal, everyday object. The narrator talks about each artist, a bit about the piece, and the part it played in changing the way the world thinks about art. - Create someone's Lost Childhood Object. | Lenka Clayton | The Art Assignment
Unsurprisingly, this video is setting an assignment to the viewer to attempt to create a cherished object from another person's childhood, using only their description. In the video, Clayton talks about a few of her own projects, and why she likes this project. The video also talks about Roman Ondak, another artist who liked to utilise the same / a similar technique within his own exhibitions. - TEDxCarletonU 2010 - Jesse Stewart - The Creative Potential of "Found Objects"
This Ted Talk is hosted by Jesse Stewart, who's a musician and visual artist. He explains to the audience how he tries to see the creative potential in everything, using them for his music / art. He shows some clips of him using normal items (like ice) as instruments, and some pictures of his artwork. He also talks about, and shows, how he likes to encourage his students to do the same. - Brian Petro: Found Object Artistry
Petro talks about how he finds some of his supplies in other people's rubbish. The video explores how he collects the things he finds, and how he transforms them into artwork. - Envisioning Potentials as a Found Object Artist: Ritch Brainstrom at TEDxHoughton
This TED Talk is hosted by Ritch Brainstrom. He talks about how he came to be an artist, how he chose his supplies, and how he receives them. Brainstrom shares the story behind his sculpture, "Rusty the dog", and how it became a college mascot.
